How do I get started?

Go to our Featured Races page and click on the
www.active.com links to the featured race you wish to run to register for the race. If you don't find a race that fits your abilities, geographic area or interest, you can select your own race.

Once you have registered, personalize your fundraising page on http://www.firstgiving.com/25732.  This allows for easy, online fundraising.  If you are unable to locate the FAST fundraising page link, type in “Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics” on the www.firstgiving.com home page “Search” block.  On your personalized fundraising page, be sure to share what race you are doing, why you are “going the distance” for Angelman Syndrome, and what your personal fundraising goal is.

Next, be sure to “like” our Facebook fan page (“Team Miles for Smiles”) so you can share your experiences, post questions, read training and fundraising tips and encourage your fellow Miles for Smiles teammates.  Make sure you take pictures throughout your training and racing journey with Team Miles for Smiles and post them!

What is the minimum fundraising requirement?

In order to receive a Miles for Smiles Runner's Kit, which includes a Miles for Smiles technical t-shirt, reminder band, training and fundraising materials, runners must raise at least $500.00.  Basic training programs will be e-mailed to each team member once they have filled out the contact page, set up an online fundraising profile, and signed a liability waiver form.  Team members will be sent t-shirts and reminder bands after they have raised the minimum fundraising requirement.  We encourage team members to continue to raise additional money for FAST up to and beyond race day!  The more we raise, the closer we get to a cure!

I want to be part of Team Miles for Smiles but can't participate in any of the events on your schedule. Are there other options?

Participation is not limited to events on our schedule or to running in general. Run, walk, bike, hike, climb a mountain or participate in any other type of event and dedicate your efforts to Angelman Syndrome research. From a hometown 5K to an Ironman triathlon, the choice of date and location is up to you.

What is a Runner's Kit?

The Runner's Kit includes a Team Miles for Smiles technical t-shirt, reminder wrist band, complimentary training program and quarterly newsletter.

Runners will receive their Runner's Kit once they reach the $500.00 fundraising mark (complimentary training programs will be e-mailed to participant once they have signed up with Team Miles for Smiles and completed the online fundraising page profile).

What size shirt should I order?

Shirts are available in men's sizes only. We suggest females order one size smaller than they would wear in a women's t-shirt.

T-Shirts are available in Small, Medium, Large, and Extra Large.

A donor gave me a check/cash.  What should I do?

Please have all check donations made out to “Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics” or simply “FAST.” After collecting a checks, send them to the FAST Office at:

FAST

P.O. Box 608

Downers Grove, Illinois 60515-0608

Be sure to include your name, the event you are participating in, so we can credit the amount to your fundraising total. You should also ensure that the donor's name and address is included so that FAST can send them a thank you letter that also serves as a receipt for tax purposes. Timely submission of any offline donations will ensure your donors receive these items as quickly as possible.

If someone donates to you by check or cash, please update the offline donation total on your Firstgiving webpage on your own. Click here to learn how!

I can't run in the race I signed up for anymore. Can I get my money back?

For most races, Miles for Smiles is unable to provide refunds for any reason, and race entries are non-transferable. However, we are able to transfer your current fundraising to another race.
